Know Your Candidates for Syosset School Board

Know Your Candidate

It was a pleasure to be on the “Know Your Candidate Night”, special thanks to the PTA Council and League of Woman Voters. The turnout was much larger than in many years perhaps due to the fact that this is an election with new faces who voiced their views to the questions asked by the community. I would like to see the same amount of people at every monthly BOE meeting and be permitted to “Freely” ask questions just as they did that evening and not limited to the BOE agenda.

During my entire campaign and during the “Know Your Candidate Night”, as a new Candidate I was able to address the questions better than many of the others because I am well informed, have confidence, do not slant the truth or selective in what I say and  provide accurate information.  I also am willing to approach the tough topics and issues and “Truly be the Voice of our Community”. Those who attended the meeting could clearly see I am willing to “walk the talk” and not knock another candidate on their views so I can look better.

I bring to our community professionalism, honesty and the willingness to be open minded and have the BOE manage the Syosset Superintendent and not the other way around. I was disappointed on how existing candidates who are ending their term in office did not mention a single item in which they worked on to improve the BOE. Instead I heard what the BOE has done as a whole.

You all need to ask yourselves do we want to continue the “business as usual with the BOE”, as many of us complain about the high salaries of the administration, the high property taxes and yet continue the same type of ‘good ole boys” mentality.

Or do you want someone like me, a leader who will represent your Voice and make sure your children get the best education possible, without putting many people in the poor house. I can "hit the ground running”. I can bring what’s needed and wanted to make Syosset School District be both effective and efficient.

Please do not allow mailings, phone calls or teachers unions to make a decision on whom to vote as BOE candidate or the budget, that’s your decision and should be based on the facts, true facts not selective responses from the school district or BOE.

Also you may be wondering why I was not in the Syosset-Jericho Tribune, I requested a retraction, it was not that I submitted my information late, the truth is I was never asked for it…. a true example of media negligence. The truth is I emailed the Syosset- Jericho Tribune editor on April 29, 2012, and was never responded to.  I’ve only been in the area for 31 years, in Newsday and been on Syosset Patch for over 2 years. You should draw your own conclusions.

In addition you all must realize for many of you the children you bring up in this upscale community cannot afford to have them raise a family here, many will have to leave and go to other less costly areas and maybe one day come back. I want my children not to do that, what do you want for your children? Decide for your children’s long term future and not the short term.
