Syosset School District - News you can use

Message to Syosset Community –  My personal views

At this writing the current Syosset School Board  is in a much better place than previous years. We are a Board with (9) members and most recently (3) new Trustees all with open minds and fresh ideas. We have stability with our Board President and Vice President going in to our next fiscal school year.

One of the reasons I wanted to be a Trustee is to represent all of the community and to have the best possible education for our children, without loss of wanted and needed programs. However the challenge for the new forthcoming Administration is to do it as efficiently and least costly without any loss of quality.

I have found my first year to be very productive. I came onto the board not knowing anyone. I have made new friends both on the Board and in the Community. I have learned to respect others with difference of views and in turn have been listened too and respected. I can truly say I have enjoyed my first year and look forward to serving our great community and helping to make a difference in our community. Your board is now an interactive Board for those who attend the monthly meetings and continues to raise the “bar”.

One of the most rewarding experiences this year was to be part of many of your children’s moving up/graduations and seeing the Youth Councils begin to report at our Board Meetings. These students are our future. On another level the amount of information and transparency has increase 10 fold in the past year. If it was not for the support of your Board President Dr. Cohen and Board Vice President Mrs. Neuendorf  I would not have received most of the information I requested or for the support of my motions.

I also like to share that being one of nine trustees requires the person to be able to get along with the other (8) and administration. A true leader must rise above the trivial, listen to all people and use all their life experiences to foster a stronger bond and board.

Yes we have unprecedented challenges ahead, with the onset of our current Superintendent Dr. Hankin leaving the district on or about October 31, 2013.  I wish Dr. Hankn the very best in pursuing the next phase of self actualization in her career. In a sense it’s encouragement for all of us to continue to push our own envelope.  Whereas I may not have seen eye to eye on all her resolutions and been a critic of the District and challenged them, I do respect her for all the good that she has done for our school district.  The next superintendent has a tough job to “Top” that role.  With that, the board will work very hard to make sure this school district continues to move upward and forward by selecting the best candidate for your children. We need to meet or exceed your expectations.

I along with other Board Trustees are advocating a Board Newsletter to keep the community more informed Please attend the next Board Meeting on August 14th. Please visit the School Website you will find meeting Agenda, meeting minutes and a wealth of other financial and important information readily available. In the near future you will be able to write in or email online your questions.

These are my personal views and do not in any way speak for the entire Board.

Enjoy your summer, with much fun and best of health and please come to the Board meetings we want to see you and hear from you.

Regards

Chris DiFilippo
