Cops Charge Man With Identity Theft In Syosset

Brooklyn man reportedly tried to take a package containing Amex card, cops said.

A Brooklyn man faces identity theft charges after he tried to claim a package, containing a replacement credit card, from a delivery man, according to Nassau County Police.

Nassau detectives said that Emmanuel Ladipo, 28, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after an incident that was reported on Marlene Drive in Syosset.

According to police, Ladipo approached a UPS driver delivering a package and attempted to claim it as his own. The driver said he required proper identification to deliver it and Ladipo left the area, cops said. The driver informed a resident of the home and told her to call the police, cops reported.

Ladipo was found in his car nearby and was arrested without incident, cops said.

After an investigation, police found that Ladipo approached the same house earlier in the day, rang the doorbell and knocked, then took an envelope from the mailbox, police said.

Police said that the package Ladipo tried to intercept contained a replacement American Express credit card in the female victim's name. She told detectives she had been the victim of identity theft and that the card was sent as a replacement for one that was reported lost by an unknown person.

Ladipo is charged with first-degree identity theft, fourth-degree attempted grand larceny, petit larceny, and five vehicle and traffic offenses. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Wednesday.
