Happy Tuesday to you, and welcome to "5 Things You Need to Know Today." Each weekday we'll be putting a little extra spotlight on some of the things that are going on in the Syosset area. While we do our best to keep up with what's going on, we can always use your help. If you don't see something that should be on the list, don't be afraid to let us know!

1. The Syosset Bowling team has a at 4:15 p.m. at the Famingdale Lanes, so come out and support the team!

2. The Our Lady of Mercy Academy basketball team looks to stay undefeated as they at 6:00 p.m.

3. The Syosset boys basketball team  in their second game of the season after defeating Long Beach in their home opener!

4. The Shenole Latimer Quartet performs at the Syosset Public Library at 8 p.m. Their live performance, lecture and examples of classic recordings from jazz icons will educate you about jazz. The Town of Oyster Bay Department of Community and Youth Services, Cultural and Performing Arts Division, co-sponsors this concert as part of CAPA's Distinguished Artists Concert Series 2010-2011. No tickets are required and the event is free for all to attend.

5. The Syosset Community takes place at the Astoria Federal Savings bank on Jackson Ave. Join Rabbi Jay Weinstein and friends of Congregation Simchat HaLev as they light the lights!
