Feb. 19-25: 5 Things to Know This Week

Founding fathers, alligator appetizers and Lent coming this week.

1. No school for Presidents' Week! The Syosset School District, Our Lady of Mercy Academy and St. Edward's School get the week off with a big thanks to Abe and George. Honor one founding father by heading over to nearby Roslyn for the Exclusive Long Island Showing of Washington's Crossing the Delaware.

2. No need to drive 1,309.9 miles to Bourbon Street for Mardi Gras this Tuesday. Just head to Mara's Homemade for an authentic taste of New Orleans. We dare you to try the alligator.

3. This Wednesday, Christians will begin the observation of Lent. Are you observing it? What will you give up for Lent beginning this Ash Wednesday?

4. Monday, we launch our Best Of series. Each week, we'll begin a list of the best places in Syosset and Woodbury and we'll ask you to give your nominees. We'll put the top nominees into a poll and you will choose the best place of all by Friday! This week is wings week so start thinking of your favorites!
