Feb. 7: Elementary Half-Day, Lunar New Year

A rundown of events and reminders for Thursday in Syosset and Woodbury.

1. Clouds begin rolling in Thursday as winter storm Nemo rolls into the area. Temperatures peak at 30 degrees Thursday. Get the full scoop on what to expect weather-wise in the coming days here.

2. School reminders:

  • Syosset district elementary students have a half day to allow for staff development.
  • Thompson Middle School's staff recognition dinner is at 4:45 p.m.
  • Syosset middle school parent-teacher conferences are from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Syosset High School celebrates the Lunar New Year Thursday with a luncheon.
  • Our Lady of Mercy Academy incoming freshman registration is from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.

3. Head to Syosset Library at 2 p.m. and listen to Professor Mary Vahey lead a lecture about an American artist and his relationship with a certain Madame X. Call the library here for event details.
