Finally! The Rain Is Coming

Forecast calls for as much as three-quarters of an inch.

Syosset should finally get a respite from the hot, dry conditions that wilted flowers and spirits over the past week.

The National Weather Service is calling for an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, with an accumulation of between half and three-quarters of an inch. As of 9:45 a.m. a band of storms was already dumping large amounts of rain in New Jersey and heading east.

Most of the rain should fall before 2 a.m. Sunday night. Sunday's forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies but only a 20 percent chance of rain.

The coming week's forecast calls for a possibility of afternoon thunderstorms through Wednesday. The shift in conditions is a welcome development for the Jericho Water District, which asked residents to stop watering lawns after some customers weren't getting enough water pressure to take showers.
