Joanne Burns is Jackson Avenue's new go-to dog groomer for the well coiffed pooch.
Her grooming studio, Dazzling Dogs, opened on Aug. 28 and her calendar was soon fully booked.
"It's been nothing but fabulous people and fabulous dogs" so far, she said.
Burns was watching three bubbly Shih Tzu's who were enjoying some time on Dazzling Dog's cozy black couch when Patch stopped by last week. The couch is part of the salon-like, girlish and fun black, pink and polka-dotted allure of Dazzling Dogs -- and it's where she does all her pre-visit consulting.
"I'm a very detail-oriented person, so I'll sit someone down on the couch and we'll go over everything from the nose to the tail," Burns said.
Being able to interact with customers directly, sans middle man, is why Burns branched out on her own after attending the New York School of Dog Grooming and working three years in kennels and grooming salons in Long Island.
She's got the skills and experience to handle any cut -- from a funky mohawk to a standard poodle. She'll entertain any request, even dye-jobs if planned ahead, but draws the line at painting toes.
"Dogs just hate getting their nails cut, so just imagine trying to paint their toenails," she laughed. "It's torture!"
Burns also does petting sitting in her own home. Dazzling Dogs is located at 15 Jackson Avenue. Contact them at 516-802-5577.
