Heat Advisory/Air Quality Alert Return to Syosset

Stay out of the sun.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Syosset area, which began at 11 a.m. Saturday and will last until 9 p.m.

Temperatures will rise into the lower- and mid-90s in the afternoon. High humidity will combine with the temperature to produce a heat index between 100 and 104 for at least two consecutive hours.

Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Small children and the elderly are especially susceptible to the heat.

In addition, an air quality alert will be in effect from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. due to the buildup of ground level ozone.

During an air quality alert the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity. This is especially true for the very young and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
