Live Blog: St. Edward's Festival

The eyes and ears of the festival are here Saturday and Sunday.

10:53 p.m.: Putting this blog to bed. Syosset Patch will be back at it for the final day of the St. Edward's Festival Sunday. Goodnight.

10:38 p.m.: Yeah, I yelled for "Freebird." Keyboardist started flapping his arms, which means either it's coming or I was being openly mocked. I'm used to the latter.

10:31 p.m.: Bel Airs singing "Born to Run," but the North Carolinian in me might not be able to resist a "Freebird" scream at the end. And no, I didn't partake while charging my computer at the beer tent.

10:27 p.m.: The Bel Airs are wrapping up their set. Someone told me I was in for a treat when they hit the stage, and I wasn't disappointed.

10:21 p.m.: Still signing up new Patch users late in the evening.

10 p.m.: Needed a place to charge this computer again, and the fine folks at St. Edward's hooked me up with a plug...at the beer tent. Some days are just blessed.

9:56 p.m.: Hope this doesn't come off as bragging, but someone's coming up every few minutes to say how great Patch is. "One night there were police helicopter lights all over the place. I knew [another LI news organization] wouldn't have anything about it, but I went on Syosset Patch and it [cops looking for a man who threatened suicide] was right there."

9:49 p.m.: When I was charging my computer at the fire department earlier, a volunteer saw the Patch logo on the top and said, "Wow, Patch is everywhere." Pretty cool.

9:44 p.m.: The guy running the pink elephant ride was dancing to "Jumpin' Jack Flash." It would best be described as "interpretive."

9:36 p.m.: Folks, remember when I said that "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" was the best festival song? I forgot about "Sweet Caroline," which I will be singing the chorus to in 10 seconds.

9:20 p.m.: Remember how I was complaining about not winning the green bear? I gave a kid a pin, and he came back with his friends a few minutes later, handed me a green bear with the pin attached and said Syosset Patch had a new mascot. Amazing! Check out my new friend!

8:51 p.m.: I remember when putting bunny ears on someone during a photo was one of the best parts of life. Wait, it still is. Anyway, check out pics.

8:08 p.m.: Band is taking a break, but they'll be back in a bit, and they promised a special announcement.

8:06 p.m.: Just saw Town Councilman Chris Coschignano chatting with Syosset Fire Department Chief John Capobianco.

7:58 p.m.: No dog this time, but a cute kid with a lollipop will more than do.

7:32 p.m.: We have competition in the "Cute Kids With Dog" category. Check out new pics.

7:21 p.m.: Coolest Patch compliment ever: Woman comes up to Patch booth and says, "Syosset was missing something, and you brought it."

7:17 p.m.: Anything cuter than a baby and a dachshund? I think not. Check it out!

6:59 p.m.: I feel for you if you just missed Bel Airs' rendition of "Brown Eyed Girl." That song generally gets butchered, but not this time.

6:50 p.m.: Nothing like signing up new Patch users while loading pics of children riding a dinosaur. Check it out.

6:22 p.m.: The Bel Airs will be taking the stage soon, and the festival is really starting to fill up.

5:48 p.m.: It's getting a bit cooler, and families are starting to walk from their homes to the festival. It's going to be a big night!

5:34 p.m.: Big thanks to the Syosset Fire Department for letting me charge my computer, or this blog would have come to premature end.

5:23 p.m.: Another happy new Patch user. Live music just ended, but feature act goes onstage at 6:30 p.m.

5:13 p.m.: Iavarone Bros. is here at the festival selling their eats for the first time, so don't miss out!

4:45 p.m.: I decided to go with French fries before the fried Oreos. I'll be back in a bit.

4:39 p.m.: Just added photo of acoustic set playing right now.

4:32 p.m.: Live music has started up. Three former St. Edward's Church singers doing acoustic set. The three young women are doing "Bad Romance" right now, and are doing Lady GaGa proud.

4:23 p.m.: Should I even bother eating dinner or just head straight for the fried Oreos?

4:16 p.m.: Can't go more than a few minutes without being reminded of my Thursday night dunk tank appearance. In case you missed it, click here.

4:12 p.m.: Someone just won a green teddy bear. A certain Patch editor is jealous.

4:08 p.m.: "From a Distance" by Bette Midler? Not so much!

4:01 p.m.: Just added a couple of new photos. Face painting and the Super Slide are pretty popular right now.

3:45 p.m.: Just signed up a new user for Syosset Patch. You can be next. I'm next to the flying pink elephants. Nice to see them sans the hangover.

3:36 p.m.: Is there a better festival song than "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson?

3:29 p.m.: Featured band tonight is the Bel Airs, which according to their sign will play a combination of rock, folk rock and a cappella. Should be interesting. They hit the stage at 6:30 p.m.

3:23 p.m.: Just had a great chat with Don Skorka from the Syosset Soccer Club about getting even more of their game results on Syosset Patch. Awesome!

3:17 p.m.: Spent the last hour training for the International Tent Wrestling Association world title bout. I lost. We're tent-less but undaunted at the St. Edward's Festival. We'll be updating this blog until the festival closes for the day at 11 p.m. Check out some of the photos from Friday night.
