Officials Break Bread at Panera Grand Opening
Residents and legislators join together to welcome new bakery-cafe to Syosset.
Syosset and Woodbury officials joined together to welcome the brand new Panera Bread to the neighborhood Wednesday. TOBAY Councilman Chris Coschignano, Leg. Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury), and Raymond Thomas from County Executive Ed Mangano's office joined residents and Panera associates in a traditional bread breaking ceremon.
"I think it's wonderful that they're here," said Leg. Judy Jacobs, adding, "And you know what? I think they're going to do really well here. It's something different."
Panera Bread's new home is a welcome change to Jericho Turnpike where a rash of sudden business closings has plagued the the commercial district. DSW is due to replace the vacant former Borders and across the street, a Chipotle Mexican Grill is reportedly being constructed.

"We think Panera is a good fit for the neighborhood," said Doherty Enterprises vice president of operations Greg George on Monday. Doherty owns the Syosset Panera franchise, which held a Family and Friends event Monday night. Employees invited friends and loved ones for a free meal to give new hires a taste of the dinner rush before Wednesday's big opening.
