Over Half of Syosset Regains Power

LIPA map shows decrease in blacked out homes.

The lights are beginning to shine again in Syosset and Woodbury.

According to Long Island Power Authority's outage map, 3,350 Syosset homes remain without power as of Saturday, down from 7,420 on Wednesday. In Woodbury, 1,858 homes are still in the dark, down from 3,434 Wednesday.

LIPA has taken much post-Sandy criticism, especially after it was announced that full restoration would likely take more than a week. Nicholas Lizanich, VP of operations at LIPA, said the unprecedented effects of Sandy have placed the latest restoration target to next weekend.

Lizanich also said that about half of the affected customers had power restored as of Friday. Syosset and Woodbury by comparison were at just over 50 percent restoration as of Saturday.

Are you still in the dark at home? In what section of town do you live? Are you keeping your hopes up? Tell us in the comments below.

Call LIPA and demand to speak to the supervisor people!
This is ridiculous!
Janina Stodolski November 5, 2012 at 12:49 pm
My mother is an active ninety year old who lives alone. NOT one person checked on her before I rescued her on Wednesday. Where are all the town supervisors and Oyster Bay officials? You have a list of all the seniors from your tax rolls. This is unaccepatable.

No power on Orchard dr in Woodbury
Td November 5, 2012 at 02:52 pm
still nothing on wilshire. The middle school is in my back yard......you'd think at least the school would be a priority.
jim Chen November 5, 2012 at 05:08 pm
I am living on Hillside Lane and not sure when the power will be restored? Yesterday LIPA performed survey in the area.
Kazi Hameed November 5, 2012 at 06:09 pm
I live in Celia drive Jericho, I don,t see anybody from Lipa working anywhere around us. Does this means they didn,t assess the damage yet. This is not acceptable at all. We desperately need power back up. It is a week already.

LIPA - Largely Incompetent Powerless Authority
I will seriously consider going off grid after this. Solar combined with a gas line powered generator should suffice. My parents live in Freeport - incorporated village with own electric. Their bill last month - $43. My bill $328. Their power - on all the time. My power - goes out when a resident sneezes too hard. A short term solution would be for LIPA to cut down all high risk trees in our backyards in Syosset that imperil utility poles, lines and transformers. I suggested this to a fellow resident and he said but they are so nice. Wake up people! Pretty trees or freezing, powerless nights? Replant with smaller safer trees. Where is LIPA? Where is LIPA? Where are they? No one's seen a truck yet, noo truck, nooo truck yet. Sitting in the cold now, boy this sucks, boy this sucks....(sung to tune of frere jacques) Peace - the cold is affecting my mind....

I believe Michael Hervey should resign after this crisis is over.
It's 1 week now since Central Syosset has lost power. I still cant speak to a LIPA customer service representative to get a proper status update, that's unacceptable. They should be answering calls to address our questions and concerns. They need to stop the avoidance game asap! I wonder if we put some pressure on our politicians if they could make Hervey step down.

Does anyone know if Pine Road has power? My parents live there and have been staying with me in NYC since we can't get any information if their power is back. LIPA website is useless...the outage map has been down all day.

What a shame we have such a poor utility in such a nice town. We can't get any live info and make any rational decisions to protect our families from cold and despair.

I am concerned for my sister and kids, they live on birch wood lane, it is so cold now, she has to stick around in area because of school opening. The schools should remain closed until power is back. It's brutal for kids to have to suffer in cold
Janet Jeddah November 6, 2012 at 02:47 am
The schools at least have power and the children can be warm there. The local synagogue in Syosset is having sleepovers for those whose homes are too cold. What I'm really concerned about is my week and a half (so far) loss of salary because of LIPA's ineptitude in repairing power everywhere on L.I. How do they think their "too high priced" bill is going to be paid? I'm beginning to think that the time has come for all residents of Syosset to rally together in a VERY public way and settle ALL of the issues with LIPA once and for all.

Clearview Village - We are still out of power and it is night 8. It is getting cold. We are on Westminster Road. Where are you LIPA? Please help. I'm very worried about my neighbor, who is very sick:(

Pine Road has power to the first houses at the bottom of the block. At the first slope of the hill the power goes off. The whole top loop is out.

All of the above comments are corrrect. In addition, the LIPA website reports almost nothing about when and where regarding restoration. Our local politicans should be responding and putting pressure on LIPA. Go over to the LIPA staging area in Uniondale at 9 am and you will still see trucks and crews not being utilized.
Leslie Rubel November 7, 2012 at 05:05 pm
Power still out on Morris Drive in Syosset, no crews, no answers, just cold and dark.

No mall to rouin our quality of life, so punishment is no power restoration for Syosset. The brass at Lipa and the makers are friends and business partners.
usa November 8, 2012 at 10:52 am
Shame on Lipa. Greed and more greed is what it is all about. Why were the services of the repair trucks from Alabama and Florida not used to restore our power? Why were these trucks chased away by Lipa. Repar trucks for several days simply paraded up and down in convoy style on LIE. The CEO and immedte chain of authoritty must resign. Shame, shame on Lipa. Greedy gluts taking profits from peoples misery.
usa November 8, 2012 at 10:55 am
The mall makers and Lipa brass are business partners and friends. No mall so no power seems to be transpiring.

Friday afternoon, still NO POWER on Donna Lane in the South Grove neighborhood. My parents on Ann Drive across the street from willets also have NO POWER. This is astounding!! I feel like most people are getting it back (most of my co-workers, people I talk to randomly) or have had power back for more than a week. Why are we the forgotten stepchildren of LIPA??!!! I have a 14 month old baby and a 4 year old.

For instance, critical thinking is not about finding fault with people who make noise by using leafRead More blowers, but about an in-depth thinking of goals and values we will achieve by limiting their use. People could earn more quality life and peace of mind by having quiet time in the early morning and the late evening. The value of mental peace is regarded crucial in our life. Critical thinking gives us a process of thinking to get into the depth of the problem. It begins with an analysis of the situation (structure, background, or setting), in which the information of when, where, and who is identified. The information may help set up seasonal differences in restricting hours of leaf blower operation. Further thinking will lead critical thinkers to note the implication of the new ordinance to the business of licensed landscapers. Also, critical thinkers may think about the development of a soundproof leaf blowing machine. Critical thinking helps us to increase and share our common values, rather than tries to find faults with people who make problems.
