is coming. So far, residents have received tons of information on how to keep safe during the storm. But what about pets?
In case of emergency evacuation in Nassau County, there are currently no shelters or facilities where you can keep your pets, according to the Pet Safe Coalition. The organization says on their website that the best thing you can do is to stay with your pets, with relatives or friends on higher grounds, to be safe.
If you need it, the coalition added that for a 10% discount fee, pets can be taken to in Mineola. Mention the Pet Safe Coalition for a discounted rate.
The coalition also expects to open a temporary holding center at in Wantagh, at 3300 Beltagh Ave. But they advise that the holding center is “for those who have absolutely no means or place to take their pet(s)."
They say that Bideawee "will probably be very crowded, and conditions will not be ideal and will be for emergencies only." You should bring with you: a copy of all vaccination records, ownership records, and/or microchip numbers, a photograph of yourself with your pet(s), and at least a three days supply of pet food and water.
A quick tip: during the storm, the coalition says that owners should remain calm, as “your pet(s) will pick up on your anxiety.”
