Syosset and the surrounding areas seem to be a great, safe place to live, but that doesn't mean we don't see some crime every now and then.

For Monday's "Question of the Day," a new feature you will see on this site daily, we're asking you, the experts on your community, your opinion on Syosset crime.

Question: Have you witnessed a crime in Syosset and how well do you think police handle crime in the area?

Yes. I saw a perfectly well off old man in King Kullen eating grapes out of his shopping cart. He managed to elude store security, TOB pubic safety officers, 2nd Precint radio cars and the FBI.

I have seen police officer's talking on there cell phones while driving and I have seen them blow thru red light's just to not sit at them. When they need to meet there ticket quota they tend to drive thru the neighborhoods checking inspection stickers. I just received a ticket in the mail for not making a full stop which I will pay but if were being monitored by big brother do we really need to pay these 100,000 salaries. Most of the cops seem like good guy's but come on when people are struggle to make ends meet and they raise the tax's every year.

Well there was that time when the Superintendent of schools stood up at the budget meeting and declared for all to hear that she was not going to take a raise in the upcoming budget and neither was her Asst Superintendent and the very next day she filed Budget paperwork with the state showing pretty hefty raises for both of them. I'm not sure what crime this would be categorized as, fraud, embezzlement. But at the very least it demonstrates her complete lack of crediblity and exposes how she is all about herself and her own pocketbook.

Bea: Next time you will make a full stop. So, the new high-tech system works. If you don't like traffic laws, WALK.

Amazing as it may seem I do kind of agree with Lucy on this one. While I believe that the intention of the red light system is wildy misstated as being primarily a safety program. It has quite obviously been put into place as a source of revenue. Why can't they just call a spade a spade? Nevertheless, as long as the photo intersections are a reality for us we have to live with them. So get used to it. They are not camouflaged. There are signs tellig you that there are cameras. You can get a list of where they are online. So if you get caught you have nobody to blame but yourself. As for yor little cop rant, not wishing it on anyone, but if someone ever breaks into your house and your family is in danger what is your first reaction going to be? "Call the Ice Cream Man?" Hell no! Are you going to be worried about cop salaries then? Hell no! Your just going to dial 911 and want to see the police as soon as possible. So why are you griping now? Take a look at your tax bill and compare the % of your police tax to your school tax %. Also how many police are making half a million dollars? like the Superintendent or 400 grand? like the Asst Superintendent. Thats right NONE.
