Questions Still Abound in Syosset Man's Traffic Death

Melissa Woods faces DWI charge, but nothing directly relating to Eric Licursi.

A new court date is set for the Massapequa woman charged with DWI in an incident related to the death of a Syosset man.

Melissa Woods, 33, will appear at Suffolk County District Court in Central Islip on March 23. She was initially represented by the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County at arraignment, but according to the organization she has since acquired private counsel. Court records do not show who her new attorney is, but do show that she posted a $100,000 bond for the misdemeanor charge on Monday and that she has no prior criminal record.

Eric Licursi, a 2003 graduate of Syosset High School, crashed his 1996 Honda in Cold Spring Harbor early Sunday morning. A Good Samaritan in a 2003 Lincoln Navigator stopped to offer assistance to Licursi, who was partially ejected from the vehicle. Woods, driving her 2007 Toyota Solara, struck the overturned Honda and then the Navigator.

Licursi was pronounced dead at the scene, but it's unclear what condition he was in at the time Woods' car became involved in the accident. At publication the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office had not responded to a Syosset Patch request for an update on the investigation.

Patch also contacted the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, but was told that due to privacy laws any autopsy information will only become public record if it's used as part of a prosecution.
