Severe Thunderstorm Watch Turns to Warning

Winds were reported in excess of 70 mph.

A severe thunderstorm watch for the Syosset area was upgraded to a warning by the National Weather Service Thursday afternoon. 

As of 2:48 p.m. a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-size hail and destructive winds in excess of 70 mph moved to the east at 45 mph. 

The line of storms extended from Glen Cove to Jamaica. The severe thunderstorm warning ended at 3:15 p.m., but the watch continues until 8 p.m.

Despite the line of storms, the Long Island Power Authority listed no outages for Syosset as of 4 p.m.
