News broke this week that Long Island Railroad fares will increase in March.
On average, most LIRR tickets will increase from 8.19 percent to 9.31 percent, depending on ticket type and zone, according to the MTA.
At that rate, a one-way ticket from Syosset LIRR to Penn Station would go from the current $11.50 to between $12.44 and $12.57. Applying that rate to a monthly ticket will raise the price from the current $254 to between $274.80 and $277.65.
