Tell Us: LIRR Fare Hike

How will the increase effect your Syosset commute?

News broke this week that Long Island Railroad fares will increase in March.

On average, most LIRR tickets will increase from 8.19 percent to 9.31 percent, depending on ticket type and zone, according to the MTA.

At that rate, a one-way ticket from Syosset LIRR to Penn Station would go from the current $11.50 to between $12.44 and $12.57. Applying that rate to a monthly ticket will raise the price from the current $254 to between $274.80 and $277.65.

What do you think of the plans to raise LIRR prices? Have you gotten used to the price increases or do you think this hike is too much?

Well since the money goes to over generous pensions to LIRR drones, I guess I should be happy. Thank goodness they are not wasting it on better train cleaning, infrastructure improvments and station upgrades.

Between no salary increase, the end of the payroll tax holiday and just having paid my property taxes, it's just a further erosion of my paycheck.
