Seniors Mark Medicare’s 48th Anniversary with a Message to Congress

Medicare is
one of the most important protections for the health and well-being of
America’s seniors. Prior to Medicare’s enactment on July 30, 1965, only 50
percent of seniors had health insurance. Now, 50 million seniors and
individuals with disabilities receive guaranteed healthcare benefits through
Medicare.  Maintaining this lifeline program for the future is critically
important. To convey this message to lawmakers, grassroots volunteers from the
National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare will deliver to
Congressional District offices Medicare door signs and special anniversary
cards listing the Top 10 Reasons Why Americans Love Medicare.
