LIRR Booze Ban Goes Into Effect

Should you be allowed to crack one open on the train?

No more beer as you stand on the Syosset LIRR platform for the train to the city. The Long Island Railroad will no longer allow alcohol on trains during the weekend. This ban follows the .

According to the MTA website, open and closed alcohol containers will be prohibited on overnight trains and LIRR platforms from midnight through 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

The ban has been implemented to curb disorderly behavior on weekends, according to the MTA, who said police will be increasing their presence "throughout the LIRR system to enforce" the new rules.
