March 18-24: 5 Things to Know This Week

Spring sports commence, dunes are revitalized and National Poison Prevention Week.

1. Spring sports have begun! Cheer the Braves at the following games

  • Tues., 4:30 p.m. Boys Lacrosse @ Garden City

2. The monthly Board of Education meeting is Monday at 8 p.m. at South Woods Middle School. Look for a copy of the agenda before the meeting on Patch.

3. The Syosset Board of Fire Commissioners has a special meeting Wednesday at 6 p.m. at .

4. This week is National Poison Prevention and National Animal Poison Prevention Week. According to the ASPCA, human foods, medications and household plants are among the top poisons for pets. Check their list and make your house safe for your human and animal friends.

The , which cares for a range of dogs, cats, birds and exotic animals, is open seven days a week and has a 24-hour hotline for emergencies.

5. Saturday is the beginning at 10 a.m. Town officials and neighbors will join together to help repair and replant the dunes, grab a hot chocolate, coffee, clam chowder and doughnuts, and enjoy a day on the beach. To volunteer for the project, contact the Department of Environmental Resources at (516) 677-5748.
