Syosset Musicians Entertain Senior Citizens in Woodbury

Students from Syosset's Village Elementary School string ensemble recently entertained senior citizens at the Cold Spring Hill Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Woodbury.

This annual event is an intergenerational experience for both young musicians and audience members to enjoy.

Under the direction of Mrs. Linda Carrella, the students performed a much-appreciated community service. As the musicians walked through the halls to the multi-purpose room to set up for the concert, they were greeted with applause, prompting one student to say, “I feel like a celebrity!”

The ensemble performed "Over the Rainbow," music from the "The Pink Panther," and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," as well as classical numbers.

The residents praised the performers.

”I used to play the violin, but I never sounded like that,” one man said.

“They sound like a high school orchestra,” a nurse noted.

Others said the children sounded like professionals.

Community outreach is an integral part of the student experience.  A heart-felt thanks was expressed to the student musicians for all their hard work and performance.
