Syosset Then and Now: Mystery Metal

Why was this found in Hurley's Field off Split Rock Road decades ago?

The bustling little Long Island town of Syosset has had many facelifts over the years. Original structures have been remodeled and replaced, leaving just a shadow of the good old days of horse-drawn carriages and general stores.

But if you look closely, sometimes you can see old Syosset hidden among the new constructions. We'll be bringing you back to the old Syosset with the help of A Syosset Scrapbook and helpful photo donors.

Why was this found in Hurley's Field? This piece of metal was found in the field off Split Rock Road by Robin Boslet. But how did it get there? Use the clues scrawled into the metal to figure out what it is and when it got there.

Give us your answer in the comments. Bonus points if you can upload a photo of what it came from or of present day Hurley's Field!

Probably from a Lockheed T-33

Correct on both accounts! A T-33 did crash in Syosset. Does anyone know when?

(Hint: It's scrawled on the metal).
