Syosset Then and Now: Rock Stars

Can you name this Syosset-based band from the 60s?

The bustling little Long Island town of Syosset has had many facelifts over the years. Original structures have been remodeled and replaced, leaving just a shadow of the good old days of horse-drawn carriages and general stores.

But if you look closely, sometimes you can see old Syosset hidden among the new constructions. We'll be bringing you back to the old Syosset with the help of Syosset Scrapbook and helpful photo donors.

Last time, Patch reader correctly identified the Reader recalled, "Biggest memory was seeing Animal House and then going down Jericho Tpk for dessert at Syosset House Diner."

Congrats to theresa.lally and thanks for all the memories readers shared!

This week's assignment is to tell us who these young Syosset students are. They formed a band and played for several years before breaking up in 1961.

The name of the band was The Furys. All of the members were great guys and have remained friends for life. I know because I was the drummer......Ray Orobona...On guitar was Ralph Stanio and Joe Getz and our vocalist was Vinny Messina. Through out the years that we played together we had various other musicians play with us....But the mainstay was Ray, Joe, Ralph and Vinny......AAAhhh to be young again......
