Kappatos to Participate in the Empire Challenge

Syosset star football player Evan Kappatos to play in the 17th annual Empire Challenge.

The Empire Challenge football game was founded in 1996 by former NFL quarterback and West Islip native Boomer Esiason. The game showcases the best high school football players from New York City and Long Island while raising funds to help fight Cystic Fibrosis. 50 players from Long Island and 50 players from New York City will go against one another on June 19th at Hofstra University in the 17th annual Empire Challenge, and one of those 100 players is Syosset’s very own Evan Kappatos.

Kappatos, already (given to the best Linebacker on Long Island), a first team all-state linebacker, and a future Princeton University football player was proud to be invited to play in such a prestigious game.

“It is a great honor to be chosen to play in the Empire challenge game, Kappatos said. “The game supports an amazing cause and I get the chance to play with some of the best players from Long Island and New York City.

Kappatos, is glad all his hard work has helped give him the recognition he feels he has earned.

“Many people do not see the work put in outside of practice and on the weekends, so they cant really understand what we as athletes go through," Kappatos said. “To be selected to the team is the ultimate confirmation of all the hours of work put into this great sport.”
