Braves Look To Rebound Against East Meadow

After a loss to Massapequa, the Braves look to come back strong against East Meadow.

Anger, frustration, and disappointment were three of the many negative emotions being displayed by the Syosset Braves Varsity Lacrosse team on Wednesday and Thursday this week. After all, the team had just been defeated by their arch rival Massapequa High School on Tuesday in a rematch of the 2012 Nassau Class “A” championship game.

After playing the worst game of the season, the players on the Braves are depending on  being able to put the performance from Tuesday behind them and play a great game in front of their home fans Friday against East Meadow High School.

“We plan on coming out with a lot of energy and bouncing back,” said junior long stick midfielder Liam Blohm. “We are going to play Braves lacrosse out there.”

Syosset has to be aggressive when they take the field against East Meadow tomorrow afternoon. The Braves can not afford to dwell on their loss to Massapequa.

“We plan on taking it to them early,” said senior Andrew Keith, who leads the team in points with 34. “We want a statement win after that embarrassing loss to Massapequa.”

In the game against Massapequa, the Braves struggled to take care of the ball, as throughout the game Massapequa was given to many extra possessions. A team at the level of Massapequa is going to capitalize on those extra opportunities, so the Braves have to correct the turnover problem immediately if they want to go on another playoff run.

“We have to do a better job as both an offense and defense of communicating out there and trusting each other,” said senior Midfielder Alex Hatzopolous. “If we talk to one another you will start to see the turnovers go down.”

East Meadow enters Friday’s game with only a 2-3 league record, but the Braves can not underestimate East Meadow because if they do that East Meadow can come into Syosset and deal the Braves their second straight league loss.

"East Meadow is a good team,” said All-American goalie Ryan Feit. “If we don’t come to play tomorrow we will be in trouble.”

As the defending county champions, Syosset has aspirations to repeat as champions in 2013. Despite the loss to Massapequa, Feit still remains confident in his team.

“Great teams never panic,” Feit said. “Although we played the worst game of our season so far, there is no panic. We have faith in everyone on the roster, from the coaches to the bench players. After two tough days of practice I am confident in our squad that we will come and play our game tomorrow.”

The Braves have the confidence -- now, they need the execution.
