Former New York Yankees outfielder and North Massapequa resident Rosendo "Rusty" Torres has been charged in connection with a sex abuse case involving an 8-year old girl.

Two Board of Education nominees, a PTA council president, and a concerned citizen stood in front of the board at the budget hearing at South Woods Middle School offering praise, asking questions, and giving warnings for the future.
Syosset High School was ranked one of the top high schools in New York State in the latest U.S. News and World Report Tuesday. Syosset came in at No. 27 out of 1,165 high schools in New York State and No. 160 in the United States.

An officer was driving near the Syosset Fire Department at 12:11 a.m. on Monday when he smelled smoke in his vehicle, said police. The officer pulled over at fire headquarters on Cold Spring Road.
Four new burglaries were reported in the area in the past week. In Syosset, a Panasonic system was taken from a Fams Court home.
