Dunkin' Donuts Invades Woodbury Common

Dunkin Donuts opened in Woodbury this week.

Dunkin' Donuts is now open in the Woodbury Common shopping center. I know Dunkin' has fans. Full disclosure: I am not one of them.

To me Dunkin' Donuts represents everything wrong with how Americans eat. Yes, DD makes excellent coffee. But once they lure you inside, they are in the business of selling donuts.

To me, donuts are dangerous. They are the perfect combination of sugar and fat.  A notorious trigger food, one bite can be powerful enough to send you into a downward spiral of unhealthy overeating. Not only do many people believe that a bite of a donut and your "diet" is ruined, donuts are actually formulated so your body craves more.  If you don't want to get caught in this trap, don't walk into a donut shop. Why test your willpower?

As a mother, I am also concerned that the convenient location of Dunkin' will make donuts the go to treat for the local elementary school. Many health and weight conscious parents who would never eat a donut themselves, think its perfectly fine to feed them to their kids.

Considering how crowded Dunkin' Donuts has been since it opened this week, I'm guessing my opinion is not the most popular one. My kids tell me to look on the bright side: the more people who eat donuts, the more potential clients there are for a good nutritionist.
