Michael Haltman and the Long Island Fight for Charity

Long Island Fight for Charity is coming soon and I will be dragging my 53-year old body into the ring!

I would like to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself to the Patch community and tell you a little bit about the journey I am about to embark on.

It combines raising money for three great charities in conjunction with training at a boxing gym in Glen Cove for a fight that will take place in November.

Over the course of the next 10 or so months I will periodically be writing about the experience in terms of my training, fundraising efforts and news about the charity or other boxers involved.

If anyone has any questions or might potentially have an interest in getting involved as a fighter or as a sponsor, please let me know!

This is the 10th year that the Long Island Fight for Charity has been raising money for various people in need. For 2013, these are the benefiting charities:

The Genesis School
The mission of Eden II/Genesis Program is to provide people with autism specialized community-based programs and other opportunities, with the goal of enabling them to achieve the highest possible quality across their life spans.

Long Island Community Chest
Providing short term financial assistance, giving individuals and families the ability to stop worrying about today and focus on building a better tomorrow for themselves, their families and their community.

National Foundation for Human Potential
The mission of the National Foundation for Human Potential is to promote, develop and encourage educational and support services for children and adults with different abilities through financial and other means of support. To meet that purpose, the Foundation raises funds and provides contributions and grant awards to organizations, which build communities.

Tale of the Tape

Finally, for every bout there is always a tale of the tape that describes each fighters physical attributes. The mental aspect can of course be a little more difficult to figure out.

I am not yet sure who my opponent is going to be but because the fight will be sanctioned by an official body I do know, thankfully, that he will be within 10 years of my age. This is my tale:

Age: 53

Height: 6' 0"

Weight: 245

Ring Experience: Some while working as a bellhop at Grossinger's Hotel in Liberty, New York, training facility for well known boxers such as Larry Holmes.

Mental State: Pretty good

Until next time!
