Ambulance Crashes Into Tree in Woodbury

NCPD ambulance transports one in cardiac arrest.

A SeniorCare ambulance crashed on Woodbury Road Thursday morning, leaving at least two injured, including one in cardiac arrest.

The ambulance was traveling northbound at approximately 6:50 a.m. when it lost control and crashed into a tree next to 397 Woodbury Road. The Nassau County Police Department officials who were investigating the scene had no comment. A SeniorCare employee on site said the ambulance had been run off the road, but by 4 p.m. a law enforcement spokesman said that there "doesn't appear to be any criminality involved."

A resident of the house on Woodbury Road said that from tire tracks it appeared that the ambulance went between a tight space separating the house's mailbox and a telephone pole without damaging either.

"I don't know how that ambulance did that, but it did," he said.

A spokesman from the Syosset Fire Department said that its units responded and transported one person with minor injuries from the scene. The critical patient was transported by a Nassau County Police Department ambulance to Syosset Hospital. By 11:15 a.m. a spokesperson with the North Shore-LIJ Health System was unable to give an update on the patient.

The entrance to Woodbury Road at Jericho Turnpike was closed off by a police car and flares as cops continued to investigate.

SeniorCare is based out of offices in Brooklyn and the Bronx. A woman who answered the phone at one of their offices said it was the first she had heard of the accident. She said no managers were there to comment and sent the call to voicemail.
