Update: One Dead in Bus Collision

Bus driver killed in head-on crash Monday along Oyster Bay Road in Locust Valley.

One person is dead and four injured after a head-on crash between a cement truck and mini school bus carrying children Monday afternoon along Oyster Bay Road in Locust Valley, Nassau Police said.

Old Brookville and Nassau Police responded to a collision under the Long Island Rail Road bridge spanning Oyster Bay Road and found a cement truck had plowed into the front of the school bus.

The bus was reportedly coming from a nearby day camp. One frantic parent was seen rushing to the scene.

Police confirmed the male bus driver was killed in the collision. Injured are four children and an adult chaperone on the bus, as well as the driver of the cement truck.

Spokeswoman Shelley Lotenberg said  received three children, ages 6 to 9, who were evaluated and released.

The bus is from the Locust Valley Central School District.

According to sources at the scene, the concrete mixing tanker struck the bridge as it was passing through and lost control. The truck is reportedly owned by Nicolia Ready Mix.

Glen Cove EMS said it was dispatched at 3:28 p.m. to assist the Locust Valley Fire Department.

LIRR service was suspended between Oyster Bay and Locust Valley branches for up to four hours as a result of the accident, according to the MTA. The 7:30 p.m. train from Penn Station to Oyster Bay marked resumption of service.

This is a developing story. Patch will update as more information becomes available.

Okay, my mistake. I was told this was the West Shore underpass, but now I see the Matinecock sign, so... not quite. But I don't recall any medians up at this underpass, either. :-/
