Cigarettes Led to Queens Street Fire

No charges will be filed after Saturday night investigation.

Careless disposal of cigarettes was deemed the cause of a fire that damaged a house at 8 Queens St. Saturday night.

The Syosset Fire Department received the call at 5:15 p.m., but luckily volunteers were already on the scene. A next-door neighbor who is a member of the department was able to put out most of the fire with a garden hose, and he was assisted by another firefighter who lives across the street.

Family members initially said that no one was home at the time of the fire, which damaged one side of the house. A 16-year-old said he was the only one home before leaving the house at 3:30 p.m., and that he only returned after getting a call from a friend saying that one of the houses on his block was on fire.
