Cops: 3 Injured in Woodbury Crash

Helicopter landed in the middle of Jericho Turnpike

Three people were injured, one transported to a nearby hospital via helicopter, in a three-car crash late Friday morning in Woodbury, according to Nassau County Police.

At about 10:40 a.m. Friday, and police responded to the collision on Jericho Turnpike in front of Stop and Shop in Woodbury.

One person had to be transported quickly to Nassau University Medical Center, so police called in a helicopter.

"It was going to land at Whitman Elementary School, but the kids were having their field day today," said Syosset Fire Department First Assistant Chief Pete Silver.

"I was quite a sight because there's not a lot of room there, but [the pilot] did a great job. Landed right on the yellow line."

Two people were sent to Nassau University Medical Center, while a third was transported to Syosset Hospital for treatment. Police and fire officials secured the scene and normal traffic was restored by 11:10 a.m., said Silver.

Identities and conditions of those involved have not been released. Details on the cause of the accident have also not been released.
