Crime Nearby: Brother Charged in Sibling's Death

An argument over beer led a West Babylon man to stab his own brother to death on Saturday afternoon, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.

John Beaumont, 54, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges after police said he stabbed his brother, Thomas, 57, to death in their Densfield Road home.

Prosecutors said Beaumont stabbed his brother once in the neck and once in the chest at about 5:30 p.m. during an argument over a beer at the home the siblings shared with their father.

DA: Bookkeeper Stole $450K
A Merrick woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing more than $450,000 from the real estate firm that she'd been working at as a bookkeeper, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.

Joanne Rocca, 67, was arrested by investigators and charged with second-degree grand larceny and 37 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Rice said that between July of 2004 and April of 2011, Rocca used her position as the bookkeeper for a Plainview-based building maintenance and real estate firm to embezzle more than $456,000 from her employer by arranging automatic payments from the company’s accounts to pay personal bills and forging the owner’s signature on company checks. 

Alleged Shoplifters Fight Back 

A scuffle between two alleged shoplifters and two security guardsat the Broadway Mall ended in robbery charges, Nassau County Police said.

Theodis A. Cole, 36, and Omar O. Sharpe, 36, both of Brooklyn, were spotted just before 4 p.m. Friday by Macy's store security concealing an unknown amount of clothing in a bag, police said.

Two security officers tried to detain the men in the parking lot. Sharpe fled with the proceeds on foot while Cole struggled with the security officers, police said.   

As the security officers escorted Cole back to the store, he began to kick and punch one of them, causing a minor laceration to his hand, police said.  Police arrived and arrested Cole. Sharpe was also arrested a short time later and the merchandise recovered.

Tag Heuer Watch Recovered 
A Manhattan man faces burglary charges after breaking into and stealing from a Woodbury home, Nassau Police said.   

Vincent Yi, 24, was arrested Tuesday, six days after he was seen walking out of an Underhill Avenue home with cash and a Tag Heuer watch, items police said they later found in his possession.

Yi, who police claim entered the home through an unlocked kitchen door, was charged with second-degree burglary.
