Crimes Nearby: Drug Charges; Huntington Attorney Arrested

A rundown of recent crimes in the area.

Massapequa: A Nassau County social worker faces drug charges after she was arrested on the Southern State Parkway near North Massapequa last week, state police said.

A trooper stopped a gray Nissan driven by Renee Pearson, 32, of Amityville, who was driving west on the parkway, because she was allegedly speeding.

When he approached the car he could smell marijuana, police said.

Police found several bags of pot and 12 green tablets which officers believed to be ecstacy.

Pearson was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. marijuana possession and traffic violations.

A man awakened by a barking dog spotted two people breaking into a neighbor's car on Sept. 23, police said. The man looked out the window and saw Gregory A Cofts, 23, and Kalie M. Koester, 18, walking from a vehicle parked in the neighbor's driveway. He called police who stopped the pair who were in possession of a GPS, police said. The witness identified Crofts and Koester and they were charged with possession of stolen property.

On Sept. 20, a home was broken into on Carmen Mill Road in Massapequa. The burglar entered through the side door and took jewelry and cash sometime between 6 p.m. and 7:48 p.m.

A burglar broke into a home on Camp Road sometime between Sept. 18 and Sept. 25, police said. The thief broke in through a window and took jewelry and cash.

A 1969 Plymouth GTX was stolen out of a garage on Toronto Avenue sometime between Sept. 18 and Sept 25, police said.

On Sept 21, a Massapequa couple was arrested on Clarks Boulevard and charged with second-degree harassment.

On Sept. 21, a South Farmingdale woman was arrested at Wal-Mart at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.

On Sept. 21, an Amityville woman was arrested at Wal-Mart at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.

On Sept. 21, a Massapequa woman was arrested at Wal-Mart at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.

On Sept. 23, an Amityville woman was arrested at Wal-Mart, at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.

On Sept. 23, an Amityville man was arrested at Duane Reade, 901 Carmans Road, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny.

Farmingdale: Amar Brown, 28, of Amityville, was arrested Sept. 26 in Farmingdale for a warranted arrest. No further details can be provided.  

James Makel, 47, of Bayshore, was arrested Sept. 26 in Farmingdale for a warranted arrest. No further details can be provided. 

Anton Murria, 51, of Central Islip, was arrested Sept. 25 and charged with DWI and other traffic violations. Reports indicate Murria was allegedly traveling in a gray GMC SUV, speeding, and changing lanes without signaling. Reports state a Trooper spotted the vehicle, pulled Murria over, and determined he was intoxicated. The incident occurred at approximately 3:35 a.m., on the eastern side of the Southern State Parkway.

Stephen Larberg, 57, of S. Farmingdale, was arrested Sept. 23 in Hauppauge and charged with third degree criminal trespassing, and third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Reports indicate Larberg was arrested at 330 Motor Parkway, Hauppauge at approximately 2 p.m.  

Thomas Igoe, 47, and his son, Thomas Igoe, 18, of Roosevelt, were arrested Sept. 22 and charged with fourth degree grand larceny and fourth degree criminal mischief. Reports indicate both stole metal light poles. When troopers spotted their vehicle, a blue Ford pick-up truck on the northern side of the Northern State Parkway near Post Avenue, they were pulled over. Reports say the trooper spotted the poles in the rear of the pick-up and arrested them. It was noted Igoe I and II allegedly used a power saw to cut down three light poles on the Meadowbrook Parkway at approximately 5:10 p.m.

Lindenhurst: Sept. 24: Dursun Alakas, Lindenhurst, charged, Lindenhurst, harassment, second degree, physical contact.

Sept. 23: James Makel, Bay Shore, charged, Lindenhurst, petty larceny.

Sept. 23: Danielle Mariano, Lindenhurst, charged, Lindenhurst, acting in manner to injure a child younger than 17.

Sept. 22: Christopher Hespeler, Lindenhurst, charged, Lindenhurst, criminal possession, marijuana, fifth, public.

Sept. 22: Thytialli Johnson, Amityville, charged, Lindenhurst, petty larceny.

Huntington: A Huntington attorney has been arrested after stealing approximately $40,000 from one of his clients.

Andrew Donner, of 45 Potter Lane, Huntington, was arrested Thursday and charged with third degree grand larceny and first degree scheme to defraud.

Working as an attorney out of his home, Donner, 55, conducted his scheme by taking funds from an escrow account between 2006 until August 2011, according to investigators.

Police say they suspect other customers of Donner's may have been defrauded. They are asking anyone who may have possibly lost funds to contact the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Economic Crimes Bureau at 631-853-5602.
