Detectives are calling a bus driver's actions "appalling" after he allegedly drove a bus with five children on board while drunk and crashed into a Syosset home Wednesday.
Frederick Flowers, 66, of Massapequa Park, will likely have a bedside arraignment as he recovers in Nassau University Medical Center, facing twelve counts of DWI, reckless endangerment, and Leandra's Law violations.

"It's appalling," said Vincent Garcia, a detective with the Nassau County Police Public Information Office and a father himself. "Nassau County Police Department, we pride ourselves on our arrest records…and here you have five children under the age of nine…on a bus."
Police reported that none of the children on board the bus were harmed, which Garcia said was simply a "miracle."

Flowers, while transporting students home from St. Edward the Confessor School, drove the bus into a Teibrook Avenue home at about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, police reported. After he was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, said Garcia. Flowers' blood alcohol content was not reported.
Flowers has no arrest record in Nassau County, according to Garcia.
First Student, the bus rental service, was unavailable for comment as of this report.
