Update: Fire Consumes Fams Court Home; Firefighter Injured

Fire took over an hour to extinguish; residents and a pet escaped unharmed.

Seven separate fire departments and police responded to the house fire that took over an hour to extinguish on Fams Court Wednesday afternoon.

responded to multiple calls about a Fams Court house fire at 12:24 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to the fire department website. Firefighters descended on the raging fire, finding the home fully engulfed in flames.

Nassau County Police and Jericho, Plainview, Hicksville, East Norwich, Oyster Bay, and Atlantic Steamer fire companies were called to help battle the blaze and together, brought the fire down in just over an hour.

"We had to worry about having the manpower, and if we received another alarm, we needed someone to be there to help," said Syosset Fire Chief Robert Kaplan.

All residents of 3 Fams Court, including their pet, escaped unharmed while one firefighter suffered minor burns.

"It was what we'd call a 'fully involved fire,'" Chief Kaplan concluded of the blaze that severely destroyed the home and radiated enough heat to melt the next-door neighbor's siding.

The fire appeared to have started on the rear exterior of the house, said Chief Kaplan, but the Nassau County Fire Marshall is currently investigating the exact cause.
