Firefighters Battle Empty Woodbury House Blaze

The house on Windemere Way was undergoing renovations.

Syosset firefighters extinguished a large house fire on Windemere Way, a gated community in Woodbury just east of the , around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The house was empty at the time of the fire and was undergoing renovations, according to firefighters at the scene. There were no injuries reported.

"It looked like they were doing some work on the floors," Syosset Chief John Capobianco said. "We'll have the Fire Marshalls coming in shortly and check it out."

A neighbor on the street said the building had been unoccupied for a long time, and wasn't sure who lived there. According to public records, the home was last sold on June 20, 2007, for $1.14 million. It was built in 1984.

"The home had been empty for a while," said the neighbor, who wished to remain nameless. "But we had seen people doing work on it this morning."

Firefighters from Syosset, Plainview, Jericho and Huntington all responded to the scene. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
