Flipped Car Halts LIE Traffic

Driver hospitalized after Toyota overturns on LIE.

A flipped car on the Long Island Expressway sent the driver to a local hospital and tied up traffic in both directions for more than an hour Thursday, authorities said.

The driver of a Toyota flipped over in the westbound lane, wedged against the LIE's concrete divider. The crash occurred just before the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway interchange, on the border between Plainview and Syosset.

Syosset firefighters and Nassau County Police responded and used hydraulic tools to free the driver from within the wreck.
