A 69-year-old man awakened Wednesday morning to a burglar who was hiding in the man's Syosset bedroom.

Nassau Police said the intruder fled out the front door and made off with two handguns, jewelry and cash.

The break-in occurred sometime before 5 a.m. on Cherry Lane East. The male victim awoke to a noise and spotted the intruder hiding behind a chair in the man's bedroom. The suspect stood up and fled the bedroom and left through the front door in an unknown direction.

Detectives determined the burglar had entered the home through an attic window. Missing from the home were two handguns, cash and jewelry, police said.

The victim was not injured.
