Man Arrested After Striking Officer With Car

Police said that man struck an officer with his driver's side mirror while the officer conducted traffic stops on the parkway, then fled the scene.

A man was arrested for assault Monday after he struck and injured an officer conducting traffic stops on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway and fled the scene, according to Nassau County police. 

Police said they were conducting traffic stops on foot at the Northbound Route- 135 ramp and the westbound Long Island Expressway in Woodbury when Jara's driver's side window struck and injured the officer administering the traffic stops at around 11:15 a.m. Police said that Jara then fled the scene and traveled into Suffolk County on the Long Island Expressway. 

Jara then got out of his vehicle and fled on foot into the woods near exit 50, but Suffolk County Police Department K9 unit was able to apprehend the subject in Melville, police said. The Officer was transported to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Blake D. Jara, 23, of Corona, was arrested in Melville and charged with Assault 2nd degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st , Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer 3rd, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle 2nd, and other violations. 

He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
