Nabbed 'Cablevision' Thief Hit Syosset

Burglar robbed 10 homes in Nassau.

A Wantagh man was arrested by Nassau County Second Squad detectives Tuesday night and charged with committing multiple burglaries while wearing a Cablevision uniform. The 10 home thefts occurred throughout the summer in Wantagh, Levittown, Seaford, Massapequa and Syosset, according to police.

Evan Schantz, 26, of Wildflower Lane, was arrested at his home at 9 p.m. and charged with 10 counts of second-degree burglary. Detectives said the burglaries consisted of Schantz entering unlocked windows of corner houses while wearing a Cablevision uniform and stealing jewelry from the residences.

The Syosset burglary occurred on Aug. 20, according to police. The burglaries in Wantagh occurred on July 22, Aug. 13 and Aug. 31, while the thefts of Levittown homes took place on July 27, Aug. 5 and Aug. 31. The other burglaries occurred in Massapequa on July 30 and Seaford on July 31.

Schantz will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
