UPDATE: Jericho Turnpike Crash Victim Identified

The woman was killed and two were injured in the accident Tuesday.

A Huntington Station woman was killed and two other people were injured when a car crossed over the median, striking another vehicle head-on, according to police.

Jane Martin, 82, was killed in the accident, according to police. The crash occurred 12:30 p.m. in Woodbury on Jericho Turnpike, about a half mile east of Crossways Park Drive.

Police said one vehicle that was in the right lane heading west bound on Jericho Turnpike was switching lanes to the left when it struck a Buick. The Buick then crossed over the median and struck a Toyota SUV that was traveling eastbound head on.

“It appears to be just a tragic accident,” said Det. Sergeant Anthony Repalone.

Martin hit her head and was pronounced dead at a local hospital sometime later, according to police.

Police said the driver of the Toyota SUV, a 57 year-old woman, and the driver of the Buick, an 82-year-old man, are being treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident closed off Jericho Turnpike, starting at Crossways Park Drive all the way down about a mile east. The traffic and re-directing of cars caused problems and confusion for both police and commuters early Tuesday afternoon.
