Part of Shelter Rock Church sustained heavy damage after a fire engulfed the kitchen.
Syosset Fire Department responded to the alarm at 2:39 p.m. Saturday and found that the kitchen at Shelter Rock Church was engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the fire before it could spread to any other part of the building, but responders reported extensive fire damage to the kitchen and heavy smoke damage throughout the church.
The Shelter Rock Church fire is one of over 350 alarms Syosset Fire Department has responded to since Hurricane Sandy made landfall, officials said.
