Sources: Fireworks Caused Syosset House Fire

Investigator says cause is yet to be determined.

Sources have told Syosset Patch that fireworks were to blame for a fire that gutted a Syosset home early on the Fourth of July.

Firefighters from multiple departments assisted the Syosset Fire Department in putting out the fire, which apparently started on the home's deck around 5 a.m. Sunday morning on 9 Wendy Rd.

Two adults and two children, ages 3 and 6, were in the house, but all got out unharmed.

When Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office investigator Joseph Whitaker was asked about fireworks being involved, he maintained that no cause had been determined and that it would be at least two weeks before one could be announced.

"We have to eliminate possible causes one at a time until we come up with something," Whitaker said.

It's unclear whether the fireworks emanated from the deck or were shot from somewhere else.

The fire happened just days after the Syosset Fire Department issued a release imploring residents not to use fireworks, which are illegal in New York State.
