Syosset Braves the Snowstorm

Several Syosset shops were closed down due to the storm Monday, but most were open and the fire department was operating as usual.

With Syosset and the surrounding towns Sunday and into Monday, a couple of local stores and businesses remained closed because of the storm. 

Looking to return video games or buy new ones? Several calls to and in Syosset went unanswered at 11 a.m. Monday, but make sure to check back with them throughout the day as they could be opening later on.

is open today normal hours - but Michelle, an employee at the store, warned customers to be safe on the streets: "Just drive carefully," she said. "It's very bad outside."

If you're looking to work out, you're in luck: in Syosset said they will be operating normal hours today.

off of Cold Spring Road is operating regular hours.  off of Jericho Turnpike is open normal hours as well. Calls to went unanswered, however, as well as calls to on Robbins Lane. 

Wondering how the snow affects the They had several crews stay in the firehouse overnight in case of emergencies, and a couple of fire district employees were responsible for running the plows all night to clear the snow in and around the firehouse, according to SFD Chief of Department John Capobianco. 

"We had a couple of small calls,"  Capobianco said. "A man called about a transformer explosion, and an 80-year-old man fell into the snow and was trapped."

He said that thankfully the man was okay, and that the fire department's response to emergencies so far has been quick - almost as fast as normal.
