Syosset Aids in Securing Gas Leak

Gas pipe broken by contractor, officials said. Line secured by crews.

A breach of a natural gas main was fixed Monday morning with the help of Syosset Fire Department.

At 7:30 a.m., Syosset fire crews were called to Foxhunt Crescent in Oyster Bay Cove, according to Syosset Fire Chief Pete Silver.

A contractor had reportedly breached a natural gas main, Silver said.

Responders used a hose line to disperse gas vapors as crews checked surrounding houses for any hints of leaks, according to Silver. None were reportedly found in nearby homes.

According to Silver, when a natural gas line breaks, the pipe can become dislodged in other locations and leaks can send natural gas into surrounding structures.

Keyspan was dispatched and successfully secured the break, Silver said. The scene was cleared about an hour later.
