Syosset Baseball to Aid Explosion Victims

The Syosset Baseball Association has started the fundraiser for Brian Welsh and his family, whose home was destroyed in an explosion Thursday.

The Syosset Baseball Association has started a fundraiser for the family of Brian Welsh, a local little league manager and a  who was badly injured in a  that completely destroyed their Alexander Drive ranch. 

The explosion, which officials said was likely caused by a gas leak, has left Welsh with severe second-degree burns across his body. He is currently in the Extensive Burn Unit at Nassau University Medical Center, according to sources. Welsh's wife and three children were not home at the time of the explosion. 

Welsh is a Manager with the AAA 11- and 12-year-old Division in Syosset. Chris Tomlinson, who coaches with Welsh and who has coached baseball and basketball with him for many years, will be coordinating the collection to help the Welsh family in their time of need.

"The idea for this came up when it was on the news, we were all shocked," Tomlinson said. "Our first thought was, what can we do for this family?"

Tomlinson said he has spoken with the family and other friends have offered their support.

"The family is in good spirits," Tomlinson said. "It's a tough time, but we're sticking together."
