Syosset Business Aids Cops With 5K Run

The event has raised more than $250,000 over the years.

The David Lerner Associates Police Appreciation 5K Run drew a record 600 participants to Eisenhower Park on June 18 to raise money for the Police Crisis Fund, which aids Nassau and Suffolk county law enforcement personnel and families in times of personal emergencies, including on-the-job injuries.  In its 19 years, the fund has distributed more than $250,000 locally.

"We are honored and proud to sponsor the run and support Nassau and Suffolk's finest who do such a great job," said David Lerner, founder of the Syosset-based investment firm David Lerner Associates.

Serving as this year's official race starter was Nassau County Police Officer Kevin Baribault, a fund recipient who is recovering from multiple injuries he suffered when his police cruiser was struck by a drunk driver's vehicle on the LIE.  Officer Baribault and his family received a donation from The Police Crisis Fund after the 2008 accident.
