Syosset Car Show Benefits Fallen Officers

Sunday's car show hosted by David Learner Associates was a success, with proceeds going towards a good cause.

The Second Annual David Learner Associates was held Sunday at headquarters in Syosset, and despite the hot weather, the event was a big success.

Cars from as early as the 1920's were displayed, including a T-model Ford, a 1957 Thunderbird, and a 1965 Ford Ecoline pickup. The selection of cars consisted of hot rods, muscle cars, Vintage Model T’s, and other brands. Vehicle owners paid a $15 entrance fee per car with lunch included, and public admission was free.

“I’m amazed how people are so careful and keep these cars in tip-top shape. It’s nice to see all these families here,” said Randi Hirsch, David Lerner Vice-President of Facilities.

This year, the proceeds were split between the Autism Society of America and the families of fallen Nassau Police officers and

Officers Califano and Breitkopf were killed earlier this year. Califano was killed on Feb. 4 on a on the Long Island Expressway, and Breitkopf was by another officer on March 12 in Massapequa.

“We are excited to help raise funds for these charitable causes while hosting an enjoyable event for the community," said David Lerner in a press release.

“It’s always for a good cause,” said Rich and Ann Solieri, 1968 Mustang owners. “Last year, it was only for autism. This year, it’s for autism and the fallen police officers. This is a good charity show.”

Hamburgers and cheeseburgers were served, and ‘50s and ‘60s music was played. Badge Insurance Company employee Tara Rose sketched cars for the event. Raffle tickets were exchanged for donations of any price made toward either of the charities. Prize winners received a David Lerner gold umbrella, a radio, and a 19-inch television set.

Cars were judged based on quality, and winners received awards. Winners included a 1970 Chevelle Ss for the Commissioner and President Award, a 1963 Black Cadillac Deville for the Nassau County Autism Society Award, and 1957 Thunderbird for the David Learner Award.

“I’m really proud of the award, and my hat goes off to the Centurions’ and DLA for sponsoring such an award,” said Bobby Brennan, Autism Society Award winner. “Hopefully, it will aid in the fight against autism.”
