Syosset Fire District Elections Tuesday

Head to the polls Tuesday to vote for a new fire commissioner.

Residents will head to the polls Tuesday to add a new commissioner to the ranks of the Syosset Fire Department.

Thomas Feeney and Richard Meinhardt are both running for a seat on the Syosset Board of Fire Commissioners. Both are former Syosset fire chiefs. Check out PDFs of their bios attached here.

Commissioner Roy Brouillard will not be running for reelection to the Board of Fire Commissioners.

Thomas Feeney and Richard Meinhardt are vying for the seat being vacated by Roy Brouillard. Voting is from 2-9 p.m. at Syosset Fire Department headquarters on Cold Spring Road.

The Syosset Fire District released a statement before the elections to correct initial information that was provided about their budget, saying "This gave the impression that the 2013 increase was greater than it actually was. Syosset Fire District’s budget for 2013 did not exceed the adjusted amount allowed under the NYS Tax Cap requirement."

The Board of Fire Commissioners consists of five members of the department.
